The salary indicated represents a base pay rate.  If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck.  A pay differential does not raise your base pay.

• Inspect a wide variety of food processing operations including but not limited to bakeries, water bottlers, breweries, distilleries and sauce/condiment manufacturers.
• Conduct compliance and enforcement activities, complaint/illness investigations, and collect samples at regulated facilities.
• Provide food safety technical guidance and training to industry, local public health agencies (LPHAs), and the public.
• Assist the retail food program with recalls, inspections, and technical guidance as needed.
• Collect food and environmental samples at regulated facilities.

• Bachelor’s degree in science, such as public health, food science, microbiology, or other applicable field of study (substitutions for experience will be considered).
• Three to five years of food safety experience.
• Ability to travel in and out of state, including occasional overnight stays on short notice. Valid driver's license required.
• Understanding of principles that affect food safety.
• Ability to pass federal background checks to obtain and maintain federal credentials.
• Moderate physical effort and mobility is required, e.g. driving vehicles, climbing stairs, negotiating outdoor terrain, walking/standing for hours at a time and frequent stooping/bending.
