Missouri Department of Agriculture

The Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA) regulates feed, grain, dairies, and milk. The entry level classifications utilized by the MDA are:

Feed and Seed Inspector
Annual Salary Range: $38,191 – $56,176

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, business or public administration, the biological sciences or closely related areas. Experience in a related field may be considered in place of education requirements. Professional or technical experience in the feed, seed or agriculture industry which affords a knowledge of the manufacture, sale and distribution of commercial feed and seed or experience as a feed and seed inspector with an official state agency. Must be able to obtain FDA credentials, reside in assigned area, have the ability to lift 50 pounds, and must possess a valid Missouri Driver’s license in accordance with Department of Agriculture standards and timeframes.

Grain Inspector
Annual Salary Range: $33,976 – $48,028

Minimum Qualifications: One or more years of agriculture related experience involving farm labor, grain elevators, feed mills, crop production, grain/oil seed processing, or closely related area; AND possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

Thirty (30) or more earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience.

Environmental Public Health Specialist I (Dairy)
Annual Salary Range: $28,872 – $46,176

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following:  Biology, Chemistry, Bacteriology, Animal Science, Food Science, Soil Science, Sanitary Science, Environmental Health or in closely related physical or natural sciences.

Professional or technical environmental public health work experience involving one or more of the areas of special qualifying experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of two years for deficiencies in the required college education. Environmental public health work experience involving one or more areas of special qualifying experience in the United States military may substitute on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the required college education. 

Special Qualifying Experience: (1) food sanitation and protection; (2) milk sanitation; (3) meat and poultry inspection; (4) sewage disposal; (5) solid waste disposal; (6) lodging sanitation; (7) institutional or child care facility sanitation; (8) community environmental sanitation; (9) water supply; (10) general vector control; (11) occupational health; (12) consumer product safety; (13) fire safety; (14) hazardous substance risk assessment; (15) recreational waters; and (16) building related illnesses.

Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services

Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (MDHSS) regulates manufactured food facilities. The entry level classification utilized by MDHSS is:

Environmental Public Health Specialist I
Annual Salary Range: $28,872 – $46,176
