How to Obtain a State Job:
Applicants interested in a job with the State of Wisconsin should search the state government job site for positions of interest or search the agency-specific employment page (linked above). Select a job posting of interest and review the responsibilities and minimum qualifications. Select “Apply for Job” to establish an account or login to your existing account to complete the online application. You will be required to upload a current resume and are encouraged to include a letter of qualifications (cover letter) with each job posting. In addition, you may be required to include supporting documentation (ex., some jobs will require a college transcript or Registered Sanitarian credential).

- Complete an Assessment – the assessment is based on the qualifications listed in the job announcement. Assessment results determine who moves forward in the hiring process.

- Certification – the register list’s most qualified candidates are selected to move forward in the process.
- Interview(s) – after certification, candidates will be invited to participate in an additional assessment, phone screening, or formal interviews.

Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection
The Wisconsin Department of Division of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (WDATCP) regulates manufactured food, retail food, milk and dairy products, feed, bottled water and produce. The entry level classification utilized by WDATCP is:
Environmental Health Sanitarian – Entry Level
Annual Salary Range: $38,875.20 – $89,336.00
Minimum Qualifications: Positions in this classification will be, or be eligible to become, Registered Sanitarians as defined and regulated under 440.98, Wis. Stats., and SPS Wis. Admin. Code (or equivalent as determined by the Department of Safety and Professional Services or applicable governing authority); Senior and Advanced level positions will be Registered Sanitarians, or equivalent as determined by DSPS or the applicable governing authority (e.g., board). The specific qualifications required for these classification levels will be determined at the time of recruitment. Such determinations will be based on an analysis of the goals and worker activities performed and by an identification of the education, training, work, or other life experience(s) which provide reasonable assurance that the knowledge and skills required upon appointment have been acquired.
