Indiana Board of Animal Health
The Indiana Board of Animal Health (IBAH) regulates milk and dairy products. The entry level classifications utilized by IBAH are:
Dairy Farm Specialist 3
Annual Salary Range: $32,812 – $55,796
Minimum Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of milk protection principles and practices.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply local, state and federal laws, regulations and ordinances, which govern the broad scope of activities within the milk production arena.
- Working knowledge of basic bacteriology and chemistry.
- Working knowledge of legal and court procedures for the collection of evidence and preparing to testify in court cases as an expert witness.
- Working knowledge of inspection and investigational methods, procedures and techniques, the ability to observe and recognize potentially adverse sanitary conditions and to prepare technical reports documenting findings.
- Working knowledge of individual water supplies and residential sewage disposal facilities.
- Knowledge of and the ability to review plans and drawings of facility construction, equipment, and layout and to make recommendations for needed changes.
- Practical knowledge of and the ability to operate testing equipment required in the field of specialization such as thermometers, sanitization test kits, sediment guns, drug residue test kits, etc.
- Ability to tactfully communicate verbally and in writing with individuals or in group situations for problem solving purposes.
- Ability to obtain a valid Indiana driver’s license and the ability to perform moderate to extensive travel by automobile.
Dairy Plant Specialist 3
Annual Salary Range: $34,606 – $58,864
Minimum Qualifications:
- Typically a Bachelor Degree from an accredited University or College with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours in biological science, chemistry, food science, nutrition, microbiology, agriculture, administration, mathematics, engineering, environmental health, public health, or a related field.
- Extensive knowledge of milk production, processing, pasteurization, packaging, storing, and distribution requirements as described by the Code of Federal Regulations, Indiana Milk Laws and the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance.
- Extensive knowledge of, and the ability to apply and use, Federal and State laws and regulations, including but not limited to the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, Grade A Pasteurized Milk Ordinance, Indiana Code 15-18 Dairy Products, 345 Indiana Administrative Code Article 8, Dairy Products, National Labeling Education Act, and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Extensive knowledge of food protection principles and practices, including bacteriology, microbiology, chemistry, food science, engineering, and computer technology.
- Specialized knowledge of and the ability to operate testing equipment required in field of specialization, such as computer pasteurization controls, pasteurization holding time conductivity test, pressure differential controls, and thermometer calibrations.
- Specialized knowledge of and the ability to review plans and other drawings of facility construction and layout, equipment, and processing engineering, and to make recommendations for needed changes.
- Specialized knowledge of inspection and investigation methods, procedures, and techniques.
- Ability to observe, evaluate and recognize potential adverse sanitation conditions, record keeping processes, or law violations, and prepare reports documenting findings.
- Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, with individuals or groups.
- Knowledge and ability to operate current technology including but not limited to personal computers, cell phones, test equipment and the like.
- Knowledge and ability to possess a valid Indiana driver’s license.
