Georgia Department of Agriculture
The Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA) regulates retail food, manufactured food (including seafood and dairy), produce, meat/poultry and animal feed. Hiring of applicants is contingent upon satisfactory results of employment verification, background and criminal records investigations and motor vehicle reports. The entry level classifications utilized by GDA are:
Agriculture Compliance Specialist 1 (Retail Food, Manufactured Food, Dairy, and Produce)
Starting Annual Salary: $43,080
Minimum Qualifications: Completion of a bachelor’s degree in agronomy, animal science, biology, chemistry or a related field/area; or certification as a registered sanitarian or environmental health specialist.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants, who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas: Certification as a registered sanitarian or registered environmental health specialist by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA). Possess 4-6 months of professional experience conducting inspections and investigations for compliance with established state and federal health and food and/or milk sanitation laws, rules and regulations associated with the Food Industry. Have working knowledge of Windows Office Suites, Digital Health Department (DHD).

Agriculture Inspector 1 (Feed)
Starting Annual Salary: $43,080
Minimum Qualifications: Vocational/technical degree in agriculture, animal science, horticulture, environmental science, or a closely related field from an accredited college OR high school diploma or GED plus one year of experience in the area of assignment OR two years of college, which included 12 semester hours or 20 quarter hours in chemistry, biology, or life sciences.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, have a Bachelor’s degree in animal science or related field and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. All Ag Inputs Division inspectors must complete advanced training in various specialized operations.
Meat Inspector 1 (Meat Inspection)
Starting Annual Salary: $43,080
Minimum Qualifications: Vocational/technical degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology or a closely related field from an accredited college OR high school diploma or GED plus one year of experience in the area of assignment OR two years of college which included 12 semester hours or 20 quarter hours in chemistry or life sciences.
Note: The selected candidate must successfully complete USDA Inspection Methods training at the first available opportunity after being hired.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas: State or Federal Meat Inspection or Food Inspection experience; completion of a bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university in Animal Science, Environmental Science, Biology, or close related field; and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
