Select the job posting of interest and review the job responsibilities and minimum qualifications. If you are interested in applying for the position, select “Apply” to be redirected to establish an account or login to an existing account to complete the online application and upload a resume. A completed State of Colorado job application must be submitted via https://careers.colorado.gov/ by the application deadline for any positions of interest, along with a cover letter detailing how the candidate meets the job qualifications. 

The Colorado Constitution (Article XII, Section 13) requires that applicants for state classified government jobs be residents of Colorado, unless this requirement is either performing work primarily 30 miles within the state border or has been waived by the State Personnel Director or the State Personnel Board. If the residency requirement has been waived for an announced vacancy, it will be noted on the official job announcement.

Colorado Department of Agriculture

The Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) regulates animal feed, meat processing, and produce that is subject to the FDA produce safety rule. The entry level classification utilized by CDA is:

Compliance Investigator I
Annual Salary Range: $51,408 – $75,240

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment; AND one year of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.

Substitutions: Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis. Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) regulates manufactured foods, retail foods, and milk and dairy. The entry level classifications utilized by CDPHE are:

Environmental Protection Specialist I 
Annual Salary Range: $56,916 – $83,316

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must meet one of the following (or any combination of experience/education) to meet the required minimum timeframe of five years: 

• Five years of professional level experience, which includes regulatory compliance, conducting field inspections, and/or enforcement related activities related to environmental health which provide the same kind, amount, and level of knowledge acquired in the required education may substitute for the degree on a year-for year basis.
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in biology, physical or health science, environmental health or closely related degree AND one year of professional experience which included regulatory compliance, conducting field inspections, and/or enforcement related activities related to environmental health.
• Education in biology, physical or health science, or environmental health may substitute for the professional experience on a year-for-year basis. 

Environmental Protection Specialist II
Annual Salary Range: $65,796 – $96,288

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with 45 quarter or 30 semester hours in an environmental or physical science, a natural science, sanitary engineering, or other closely related field AND two years of experience in a related field; OR additional appropriate education or experience that will substitute for the degree or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis.
