How to Obtain a State Job:

The State of California requires job applicants to successfully complete an examination for each classification they are interested in applying for, prior to be considered for a vacant position in that classification. Examinations for some classifications, such as for an Environmental Scientist, may be utilized for vacant positions within numerous state agencies. The examinations may take a variety of forms, such as knowledge and experience assessments, written exams, or oral exams. Candidates who successfully complete the examination are eligible to apply for vacant positions within this classification.

Interested applicants can establish a CalCareer account, and begin taking state civil service examinations, store different application versions, apply for vacancies at 150 departments, track application status, and save resumes all in one place.
