How to Obtain a Federal Job with FDA: 

Applicants interested in working for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should search for FDA jobs on the USA Jobs website for positions of interest. Review the job postings carefully and determine if you meet the minimum qualifications for the position.  Read the “How to Apply” section of the job announcement and then click the “Apply” button to login or create a new account. Once you have a USA Jobs account, you can store various versions of your resume, cover letters, and other relevant documents. Note: All uploaded files must be 3 MB or smaller and in an acceptable format (.gif, .jgp, .jpeg, .png, .rtf, .pdf, word.doc or word.docx). U.S. Food and Drug Administration

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is responsible for inspecting and regulating foods, drugs, medical devices, and cosmetics. The entry level classification utilized by FDA is the Consumer Safety Officer classification and the minimum qualifications are:

Annual Salary Range:  
GS-5 $30,414 - $39,540
GS-7 $37,674 - $48,978
GS-9 $46,083 - $59,907
Note: Pay may vary based on geographic location of position.

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree in quality assurance or a related degree that included at least 30 semester hours in one or a combination of the following: consumer laws, biological sciences, food science, chemistry, pharmacy, physical sciences, food technology, nutrition, medical science, engineering, epidemiology, veterinary medical science, legal investigations, law enforcement, or related scientific fields that provided knowledge directly related to consumer safety officer work.  The 30 semester hours may include up to 8 semester hours in statistics, or course work that included the principles, theory, or practical application of computers or computer programming. 

OR a combination of education and experience; courses consisting of at least 30 semester hours in the fields of study described above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Experience:  To meet specialized experience requirements, the applicant’s work experience must have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary to perform at the grade level of the position. Qualifying experience involves enforcing laws and regulations to protect consumers from foods, drugs, cosmetics, fabrics, toys, equipment, and household products that are defective, dangerous, impure, unwholesome, ineffective, or improperly or deceptively labeled or packaged.

Additional Requirements: Must have a U.S. citizenship, possess a valid state driver’s license and a background investigation is required.
