How does it get done?
- Supervise and provide strategic leadership for staff ensuring consistent program implementation, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance statewide.
- Review and provide oversight of food-related enforcement actions, ensure regulatory consistency, and coordinate statewide investigations of foodborne illness outbreaks in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Administer federal cooperative agreements and contracts by developing applications, negotiating terms and budgets, managing matching funds, ensuring compliance with grant/contract requirements, and completing all required reporting and deliverables.
- Serve as a principal advisor to the Bureau Chief by providing strategic recommendations, coordinating special projects, assisting with the development of the annual operating budget, and ensuring adequate funding for statewide program operations.
- Review and analyze proposed legislation affecting food safety programs; develop, revise, and implement state regulations, policies, guidance documents, and standard operating procedures; coordinate stakeholder engagement; and represent the Bureau during legislative and regulatory rule making processes.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
- Leading complex, statewide regulatory or environmental health programs, with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams, drive organizational performance, and ensure consistent program implementation.
- Developing strategic plans, overseeing budgets, managing federal grants and contracts, and balancing competing priorities while achieving organizational goals and regulatory compliance.
- Food safety regulations, inspection and enforcement programs, public health policy, and regulatory development, with the ability to interpret complex laws and provide sound technical guidance.
- Building partnerships with federal, state, local, tribal, and industry stakeholders; effectively communicating with executive leadership, legislators, and the public; and representing the agency during legislative and rule making processes.
- Exercising sound independent judgment to resolve complex regulatory, operational, fiscal, and personnel issues while promoting innovation, accountability, continuous improvement, and excellent customer service.
