Description

Under limited supervision, this position performs advanced and/or lead-level work in the enforcement of environmental and public health sanitation laws. Duties may include acting as a specialist at local or regional health departments or at the agency level, participating in health facility licensure and certification survey teams, and overseeing environmental and public health sanitation services for a single county or multiple counties. The position ensures the effectiveness of sanitation programs and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Public contact and considerable travel are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced inspections, investigations, and evaluations in assigned program areas.

  • Initiate administrative and/or legal action as necessary.

  • Serve as a lead worker, guiding, training, and reviewing the work of other sanitarians and professionals.

  • Act as a specialist or team member in health facility licensure and certification surveys.

  • Ensure environmental and public health sanitation services meet local and regional needs.

AND
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a sanitarian.
OR
Substitution: A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in public health, environmental science, chemistry, biology, physical science or agriculture may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

Special Requirements: Must be licensed as a Registered Sanitarian by the West Virginia State Board of Sanitarians or be eligible to be licensed with the Board per the Reciprocity section of the Practice of Public Health Sanitation, W. Va. Code R. §20-4-4 et seq. Must possess a valid driver's license. Availability of an automobile for continuous use may be a requisite for employment.
