Massachusetts Department of Public Health
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) regulates manufactured food, milk and dairy products, feed, manufactured cannabis products, seafood, shellfish, bottled water, drugs, and medical devices. The entry level classification utilized by MDPH is:
Food and Drug Inspector II
Annual Salary Range: $57,981 – $79,102
Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operator’s License is required. Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the manufacturing, processing or distribution of food, food products and/or drugs, the major duties of which involved the inspection of food, food products and/or drugs, or in regulatory or law enforcement work involving the inspection of food, food products and/or drugs, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitution below.
Substitution: A Bachelor’s or higher degree with a major in food science, pharmacy or pharmacology may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience. Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
