Kentucky Department of Agriculture
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA) administers the state produce safety program which is based on FDA’s Produce Safety Rule. The entry level classification utilized by KDA is:
Administrative Specialist III (Field Representative/Produce Safety Inspector)
Annual Salary Range: $29,129 – $46,607
Minimum Qualifications:?Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Three years of professional, administrative, or business experience. Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Additional administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Upon appointment, employees in this class may be required to maintain a valid driver’s license and be required to drive a licensed vehicle. This status may be necessary for the length of time in this class. If this is necessary, it will be listed in the specific position description. Applicants and employees in this job title may be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check. Applicants and employees in positions which perform job duties that may require contact with offenders in the custody or supervision of the Department of Corrections or with youth in the care, custody, or supervision of the Department of Juvenile Justice must meet qualifications pursuant to the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act, 28 C.F.R.115.17 and 115.317.
This is a federally funded, time limited (FFTL) position related to FDA’s Produce Safety Cooperative Agreement Grant.

Kentucky Department of Public Health
The Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH) administers the state manufactured food program and a limited retail food program. The entry level classification utilized by KDPH is:
Environmental Health Inspector I
Annual Salary Range: $28,248 – $45,198
Minimum Qualifications: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree with a minor or twenty-four (24) semester hours in environmental health, biological health or physical science.
Note: Must be registered as an Environmental Health Specialist/Sanitarian under the provisions of KRS 223 within twelve (12) months of appointment and maintain this registration for the length of employment in this job title. Upon appointment, employees in this class may be required to maintain a valid driver’s license and required to drive a licensed vehicle.
